Introduction
I
From developing photographs at home as a child, for me the magic of photography today is as strong as ever.
I am a Post-Graduate Researcher in Photography at Arts University Bournemouth and specialise in traditional silver-based (analogue) photography in both colour and black-and-white.
My last project, 'Ancient Tones', was a study of the ancient anthropogenic landscape to produce hand-printed enlargements which were toned to incorporate chemical elements appropriate to the epoch of the subject. In that way, I was linking my images to the people who dwelled on the land in ancient times. Some of the images are shown on the 'Photographs' tab on this site.
In my current project, I am exploring stereo-photographic techniques.
My earlier work includes portraits, and photography documenting the places where I have travelled. Before photography, people recorded passing moments and views by drawing or painting. The capacity of photography to record very fine details was a key attraction from he outset. So much of our photography is documentary in nature.
With the passage of time, many things we consider 'everyday' end up disappearing and people we know are not always with us.
Photography allows us to keep those images from our passing lives, that otherwise might not be recorded.
